5-9 Surrey Street, Croydon – Beamhouse Yard

A complex and constrained site situated within an existing lively market and conservation area which delivers its own challenges in way.

The proposal includes the demolition of existing buildings and redevelopment of the site to provide a high quality building comprising part eight and part seven storey with two storey setback in addition to a lower ground floor fronting onto Exchange Square. Residential accommodation is located at part ground floor and from first to seventh floor. Commercial / retail space is located at ground floor fronting Surrey Street and community / events space is being re-provided at lower ground.

The mixed use nature of the building responds to the existing diversity of uses on the site; it aims to retain or replace existing community uses and contribute positively to the Surrey Street market.

The ambition is to create an architecturally rich and robust building that responds to the existing character of its context, which sets a quality precedent for future development in the area.

Planning Application submitted February 2018.
